Cedar Circle Farm: The Best of the Freshest
Baby people, baby animals, and baby plants embody hope for the best that can be while shrouding the mystery of what will be. In the spring, at the garden centers and farms in the Connecticut River Valley, you can see lots of baby plants. Some will grow up to produce tasty, nutritious vegetables, while others may produce fragrant, colorful flowers. One of the best places to see and buy baby spring plants, and later in the season to get organic vegetables and beautiful flowers, is Cedar Circle Farm.
Cedar Circle Farm is located on the west bank of the Connecticut River in East Thetford, Vermont, less than a mile south of the East Thetford Bridge. In addition to the seedlings, Cedar Circle Farm has colorful hanging baskets and flowers that can be transplanted into gardens, window boxes, and hanging baskets. The farm is known for the huge range of colors and flower types of its dahlias. They also sell colorful impatiens for ground cover in dark, shady corners and trailing impatiens that flow down the sides of baskets hung in the shade.
Cedar Circle uses bio-fuel to heat their green houses and power their farm machines. They use draft horses to plow the fields. This year they opened a café where visitors can get organic coffees, teas, and fresh-baked goods. During the upcoming months they have planned a variety of events including horse-drawn wagon rides and a strawberry festival with live music and dinners featuring organic produce prepared by local chefs and served in their fields on the banks of the Connecticut River.
If you have neither the time, space, nor inclination to nurture baby vegetable plants you can buy a share of Cedar Circle Farm's vegetable crop. Through a program called Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), Cedar Circle Farm and many other farms in the area offer local residents an opportunity to purchase a share of the farm's vegetable production. A share in a CSA program provides a family of four with a box of seasonal vegetables for 20 weeks. The Cedar Circle Farm program is special because all their vegetables are organic. For an additional fee you can even add whole-grain breads to your weekly box. Return to Area Profiles Table of Contents
